Job Description:

This position will report directly to the Plant Manager and be responsible for the overall success of plant operations pertaining to the satisfaction of customer service levels and quality expectations including the direct management of production, scheduling, training, and continuous improvement departments / initiatives at the Plymouth Plant.

Plan, organize, and direct the production and scheduling operations to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and quality are met

Initiate plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital

Assures attainment of business objectives and production schedules while insuring product standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations

Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout assigned departments for problem-solving and cost reduction, both on a permanent and unplanned basis. Encourage use of GEMBA walks and focus on fact-based problem-solving using RCAs in place in accordance to the established triggers.

Continually improve safety records by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Maintain and improve housekeeping in all areas. Working closely with the Safety Manager to ensure continuity and adhering to Pretzels safety systems.

Cooperate and coordinate with other department managers to assist with all aspects of job performance and operational effectiveness for the plant including: Purchasing, Human Resources, Sales, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, Quality (including Sanitation & Food Safety), and Research and Development

Work in collaboration with teams on improvement projects including capital investments, process improvements, etc.

Drive lean initiatives and be the main advocate for continuous improvement culture

Participate and support HARPC, Food Safety, Food Defense, Internal Auditor, and Safety Committee programs

Be able to perform all Production Supervisor duties and perform in their absence

Ensure all Production Supervisor duties are performed on shift. Report and correct any deviations

Train, interview, and evaluate any new Production Supervisors

Plans, directs, and coordinates production activities and priorities to obtain maximum efficiency of operations and profit

Reviews, develops, and implements methods, procedures, and reports to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality including root cause analysis and gap analysis.

Provides direction, accountability, mentoring, and feedback to Production Supervisors.

Assumes responsibility for costs, methods, operations, quality, sanitation, food safety, and quantity of production (Remove this portion)

Ensures continuous improvement as a part of every operation and effectively implements it throughout the plant

Revises production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems, in conjunction with Plant

Manager, Scheduling, Purchasing, and other departments as needed.

Communicates with management to establish production and quality control standards, obtains data regarding quantities, specifications, and delivery dates (Remove this portion)

Promotes a team atmosphere, takes pride in workmanship, must be self-motivated, and provides timely and accurate work

Develops, mentors, and evaluates Production Supervisors and other employees.

Assists with all discipline on shift

Communicates shift needs to appropriate departments, such as all HR discipline, time and attendance, collaborate with internal application process, overtime, downtime events, etc.

Works closely with Plant Manager, Research & Development Team, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering on continuous improvement projects and shift needs, including training, retention, evaluations, new equipment designs, troubleshooting improvement, product development, etc.

Works with Production, QC, Maintenance, Scheduling, and Warehouse on all holds, quality and food safety issues, including investigation, containment, and corrective action

IN THE EVENT OF AN ABSENCE:

The Plant Manager will proceed with doing the essential functions of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Associate degree in a related field (Business Management, Engineering, etc.) or equivalent.

7+ years bakery manufacturing leadership experience managing 100+ employees on multiple shift operation.

Proven leadership skills a must.

Demonstrated success of developing employees.

5+ years managing in a process manufacturing environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Bachelor’s degree in related field.

American Institute of Baking certification

Experience in implementing and/or adhering to 3rd party audits and certifications (AIB, ISO, BRC, and SQF).

2+ years’ experience in a food processing plant, specifically baking. (Remove this portion)

HACCP and/or PCQI certification.

Formal Lean and Six-Sigma Training including successful demonstration of implementation in a manufacturing environment.

OSHA certification or training.

Mechanical skills or experience to maximize efficiencies of highly automated facility.

Work environment conditions may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, side shields, hearing protectors and hair nets.
