Experience in Brachytherapy or Radiation Oncology Description: The
responsibilities of the Radiation Oncology staff nurse include
assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing
care for a complex patient population. This role is procedural,
focusing on brachytherapy where the RN will prepare patients,
assist in procedures, and provide recovery care as needed. The
staff nurse will provide patient and family education, clinical
support, and psychosocial and emotional support before, during, and
after treatment. Nursing care may include assisting patients during
brachytherapy procedures as well as external beam treatments. Care
will primarily involve adult patients. If the RN has PALS and
pediatric training, there is the opportunity to treat pediatric
patients. The RN is a member of a multidisciplinary care team that
requires effective communication and collaboration with co-workers
and staff from relevant institutions and agencies. This role
demands clinical expertise, critical thinking, collaborative
practice, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of
current cancer treatment principles and practices. The RN will
perform procedures and Point of Care Testing as ordered. 5 Benefits
