The Clinical Engineering Manager oversees the day to day operations of the Clinical Engineering department. This manager works daily with radiology, laboratory, nursing, facilities, quality/risk staff managers and directors. Also functions as an active liaison with BIILH Clinical Engineering leadership. This management role is accountable for ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes for the Clinical Engineering Department and all the technology included in the Medical Equipment Management Program throughout the organization and requires periodic hands on assistance to the BioMedical Engineering Technicians. Participates in the equipment management process through involvement in the system development, implementation, maintenance and performance improvement processes. Duties/Responsibilities: + Supervise, and coordinate activities of biomedical technicians engaged in maintenance, repair and calibration of biomedical equipment used throughout the organization, both on-site and off-site. + Train staff, evaluate employee performance, and administer disciplinary action in collaboration with leadership as required. + Utilize knowledge of computer, electrical, electromechanical engineering principles and other related technologies. + Creates, modifies and updates hospital polices related to Clinical Engineering in accordance with accreditation requirements with the guidance of Quality department staff and leaders. + Interpret organizational policies to employees and enforce safety regulations as well as interpret specifications and work orders with biomedical technicians. + Analyze and resolve work problems or assist employees in solving work problems. + Represent Clinical Engineering department at requisite committees throughout the organization. + May perform functional testing, routine scheduled preventive maintenance, calibration and repair of basic to complex biomedical instrumentation as needed. + Oversee and coordinate preventive maintenance on a wide variety of basic to complex electronic and electromechanical patient care equipment throughout the organization. + Oversee and coordinate the inspection and performance verification of new/incoming biomedical instrumentation prior to clinical use. + Oversee and coordinate the corrective maintenance and calibration of equipment as required. Responding to telephone or direct requests for service from equipment users. + Oversee and coordinate instruction of clinical users in the proper operation, safety and routine care of biomedical instrumentation. + Report and/or make recommendations to leadership regarding preventive maintenance procedures and schedules, operational improvements, incident investigations, etc. + Oversee warranty repairs and contracted services by outside service representatives as needed. + Oversee the requisition of service parts and spares for corrective maintenance or stock replenishment. Suggest items for one time or stock purchases. Investigate alternative parts sources for cost savings, quality improvement or faster delivery. + Performs other duties as assigned. Experience/Knowledge/skills Required: + Minimum of 3 years related experience + Knowledge of preventive and corrective care standards for Biomedical, Radiology and Oncology equipment + The ability to supervise in a diverse environment with a focus on customer services. + Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards and other local, State and Federal regulations required. + Prior budgetary and operational financial management processes. + Highly developed interpersonal, analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills. + Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and resolve equipment repairs. + Knowledge of computers, electrical, electronic and mechanical principles required. + Ability to explain and demonstrate the correct operation of biomedical equipment to medical personnel. Education Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering or management discipline required or equivalent experience
