Director of Nursing, Senior Behavioral Health Center Req# 9715 Senior Behavioral Health Center Full time , Day shift , 40 hrs/wk Posted 11/09/2020 Pay Grade: MGMT Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supports Hospital mission, goals, and objectives
  • Provides leadership and direction in accordance with Hospital core values, guidelines, and nursing practice
  • Provides clinical supervision for nursing, patient support and administrative staff
  • Develops, implements and updates all policies and procedures for the unit according to regional and national standards of care and regulatory standards
  • Ensures the Unit meets and maintains all federal, state, and local and accrediting bodies' regulations and standards
  • Directs departmental staff involved in multidisciplinary teams to address process improvements involving patients, employees, other customers or teams appropriately
  • Collaborates with medical and clinical staff in coordinating and managing the medical and psychosocial treatment plans
  • Participates in assessing and reassessing needs of the patient
  • Supervises all patient care and sets guidelines for accurately reporting and recording of patient symptoms, reactions and progress
  • Interprets the nursing and treatment needs of the patient to nonclinical staff assigned to the patient
  • Develops processes to audit and coordinate ongoing education to ensure all staff are trained on proper documentation of all aspects of the patient's care in conjunction with Professional Practice and Unit Based Educator
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, families, and friends
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality; and assures operations protect patient information
  • Ensure sufficient staff to provide for patient care needs in keeping with appropriate regulatory requirements and staffing plan
  • Operates within ethical standards
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and regulatory standards in collaboration with Quality Department personnel
  • As needed, and using approved methods, assists in safely placing patients in seclusion or restraints; observes suicide/seclusion precautions; including physical requirements for physical holds and safe transport of patients.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety standards; infection control policies and protocols; medication administration and storage procedures; and controlled substance regulations
  • Complete all requires staff competencies per program regulations in a timely manner
  • Renews licenses and certification in a timely manner
  • Participates in individual, group, and family psychotherapy and education seminars as appropriate
  • Ensures operations of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; calling for repairs; and evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Provides feedback to VP and hospital leadership on ongoing basis in regards to concerns, improvements, changes, etc.
  • Ensures employee files are complete and in compliance with Hospital, state, and Federal requirements
  • Serves on assigned committees and attends all Hospital, provider and staff meetings as required
  • Recruits, interviews, and selects quality staff for the Unit
  • Provides for professional growth and development of staff through identification of needs, development of individual training plans and participation in training programs in conjunction with Professional Practice and UBE
  • Monitors personnel performance on a continuous basis
  • Conducts regular performance evaluations for staff
  • Develops and submits annual Quality Improvement Plan; this plan is based on the identified clinical performance issues, internal clinical audit findings, recommendations and needs of the hospital
  • Counsels employees , and, as necessary, takes appropriate disciplinary action for infractions of standards and policies
  • Collaborates with medical Director in the maintenance of the Unit milieu
  • Leads an aggressive referral development program that produces an appropriate census for the unit; adheres to productivity targets
  • Manages unit budget development and monitoring as required by the hospital
  • Implements quality improvement goals and objectives on the unit in a timely fashion
  • Collects data to provide input and/or feedback to customers (i.e., teams, supervisors, coworkers, nursing agencies, hospital administration) to improve work quality and/or productivity It is understood that this is a summary of key job functions and does not include every detail of the job that may reasonably be required. Education/Experience Required:
    • Minimum five years' experience preferred with appropriate education Registration/Certification:
      • Massachusetts RN certification/licensure
